FAT ANDY invades Templeton, IA - The Recap

We headed out to the beautiful Iowa local that is Templeton for a classic small town Saturday night. "Special Guests" of our buddies The Nadas as they helped to crack the seal on the new Whiskey Distillery that creates the nectar known as Templeton Rye. So, Will got there on The Nadas charter bus, Travis trucked over solo, while Jim and the Brians shared a ride.

The tours were going about every 30 minutes...and they RULED. I mean, as much as a scientific explination of whiskey creation can. The history is what'll get you. As 5 proud Iowans, it was cool to see our heritage preserved and championed. So, before we get on with the story...thanks to Scott Bush and the Templeton Rye guys for what they do and letting us help open up thier new building

But this, as they say, is where the story took a turn. As we got rain EVERY DAY for the whole last week, one would assume that we'd get AT LEAST one day without severe weather. Yeh...no...no that's not what was the plan.

As you can see from the video below, the wind was wicked and there was a real concern that we were about to flip upside down while playing out set.

However, the rain held off and Fat Andy felt pretty good about the show...a solid hour of mostly originals and some deep covers thrown in. We thought we'd set the slowly growing crowd up nicely. Too bad for the folks there, we there going to play a whole lot longer the then real reason they were there...The Nadas.

Just as we got down, the radar looked bright red and the lighting started to strike. Just long enough to let us loose in the Templeton Rye store where Will ended up buying a Whiskey Barrell...just what he needed.

So, the Nadas finally try to get up there...they even had a local gal playing the fiddle...all ready to roll. Too bad 4 songs in Mother Nature unleashed what Forrest Gump would call a "sideways rain". All us Fat Andy guys thought we'd be smart and run into the "green room" they had set up for us. Too bad it was locked...and there was no cover over there...and by the time we checked the big porch they'd built to see if there was room for us...there was not.

We got soaked...the rain never let up...and we ran out of drinks all hovering together under a very, very, very small overhang. However, Templeton Rye...LOTS OF IT...ends up warming you up nicely. Mike and Jason obliged by playing a little acoustic jam inside the Distillery and we all dried off.

That is, until both Will and Jim biffed it HARD in the muddiest front yard of all time...and so ended the night.

See Parts I through IIII of the pictures from the night below. Thanks Templeton...next time we come let's hope the weather changes but the whiskey stays the same.
